Our Cut-To-Size Poplar, or Tulipwood Timber as it's also known, is a cost-effective wood material derived from Eastern States of America. Poplar Tulipwood Cut to Size

Name: Liriodendrun Tulipifera
Uses: Construction, furniture parts, interior joinery, doors, plywood, pallet boxes, mouldings and veneers.
Country of Origin: An Eastern North American variety of the Liriodendron tree. The Tulipifera is found in the east of North America and is considered to be one of the most desirable hardwood trees in that area of the country. It can be found in New York, Northern Florida, Louisiana and South Ontario. Valleys, the bottom of streams, mountain slopes that receive a lot of moisture and lower mountain coves are the typical habitats for this species.
Woodshop’s Preferred Finish: Rustins Wood Dye, Rustins Chalky Finish Paint
Durability: Non-durable (Less than 5 years)
Density: 350 - 500 Density (Kg/m³)
Colour(s): It can be hard to differentiate between heartwood and sapwood colours. Normally Poplar heartwoods are pale cream to yellow-brown, sometimes with streaky lines of green and grey present. The sapwood is pale yellow or white and can blend seamlessly into the heartwood colours.
The Timber: Poplar/Tulipwood is a soft and fairly lightweight hardwood. It’s set apart by its smooth appearance, muted natural lustre, straight and consistent grain and medium texture.
Strength: Comparable to Idigbo in strength with slight durability, low hardness and low stiffness, but good dimensional stability. When cut-to-size, this is much more of a functional timber that’s brilliantly suited to interior projects.
Working Qualities: Very easy to work with due to its softness and low density. It nails and takes screws without risk of splitting and responds well to both hand and machine tools. It’s also great for carving and turning and glues, stains, polishes and paints to a great standard. Although the softness of the wood may cause some fuzziness on the edges when shaping up and sanding, the use of a finer grit will yield a higher-quality finished material.
There is quite a wide colour variation with Poplar, from cream-white to lime green. When sprayed and finished, it leaves a nice, smooth texture.

It's the first time I have purchased from Woodshop Direct, but probably not the last! Once the order was placed, I was kept informed of progress right through to the delivery. The tulipwood ordered was of a good quality, and all sizes were spot on!

Wood shop direct provide a good service and the wood is accurately described and cut with a good finish. My only suggestion would to be to have a cheaper delivery option for smaller orders.
