Grown in the central region of Europe, our cut-to-size European Oak hardwood timber grows slowly, producing a uniform colour and straight grain. Greyish-brown to yellowish-brown in colour, the wood character of European Oak is heavily influenced by the conditions it grows in.
Takes glue, nails and screws well, except near to edges, when the timber should be pre-bored. Open to a wide range of finishes (staining, waxing, polishing, smoking, fuming, liming), European Oak can be finished to an exceptionally high standard, drastically enhancing the true beauty of this wood.
Medium to coarse in texture, the working properties of European Oak can vary from fairly easy to moderately difficult depending on growth conditions.

The Timber: It has a medium to coarse and uneven texture and straight grain with possible irregular or interlocking patterns depending on growing conditions.
Strength: European Oak is a hard, strong and heavy timber, known for its high strength properties and good levels of durability. It also offers good abrasion resistance, making it an excellent choice for indoor furniture. This cut-to-size hardwood has good decay resistance for projects such as boat building.
Working Qualities: European Oak can vary from easy to moderately difficult to work with. It can machine well in some cases but responds less well in others, so some preparation may be needed. It takes glues, nails and screws well, except near to edges, where the timber should be pre-bored.
