Our Cut-To-Size American White Oak Timber is pale yellowish-brown to mid-brown, often with a reddish tint and typically straight grain with a medium to coarse texture. White Oak timber is one of the most widely used American hardwoods and can be seen daily in various public buildings.
Similar to European Oak, the working properties of American Oak Timber can vary from fairly easy to moderately difficult depending on growth conditions. Slightly stronger than European Oak due to its greater density.
This wood choice takes glue, nails and screws well, however, pre-boring is recommended. Can be finished to a very high standard with the use of oils, stains, waxes etc. Due to its relatively low moisture content, the timber can be susceptible to movement in variable humidity environments, making it unsuitable for external use.

It can be found stretching from Minnesota to northern Florida and eastern Texas.
Uses: Interior joinery, shopfitting, stairs, furniture, kitchen doors and flooring, desk or kitchen worktops, cabinetmaking, office furniture, panelling.

Colour(s): The heartwood is light to medium brown in colour, often with a reddish tint. The paler sapwood colour will sometimes have a gradual colour difference or no variation at all compared to the heartwood.
The Timber: This widely used and popular hardwood comes with a straight grain, a medium to coarse uneven texture, and a consistent visual appeal that makes it a great choice for many different types of woodworking projects.
Strength: American White Oak is known for its hardness, heaviness and high strength. It also has great resilience and density with minimal risk of splintering. Due to its closed cellular structure, this wood is both water and rot-resistant, making it a practical and decorative woodworking choice.
Working Qualities: Expect solid results with hand and machine tools when you choose this cut-to-size hardwood. American White Oak takes glues, nails and screws well but pre-boring is recommended for the best results. It can also be finished to a very high standard when used with oils, stains, waxes and similar treatments. Due to its relatively low moisture content, the timber can be susceptible to movement in variable humidity environments, making it unsuitable for external use.

Lovely quality on some planed walnut and oak. I was nervous about how the wood would be packaged, but there was very clearly a lot of diligence applied when preparing the shipment and the wood has arrived in perfect condition. Super happy.
