Western Red Cedar is a very lightweight, relatively soft timber. Light reddish-brown to dark reddish-brown in colour with a tight, straight grain. Very easy to work, but has a coarse texture and is relatively brittle, which can cause splintering.
Tools need to kept sharp when working to ensure a good finish. It's soft character can lead to bruising, meaning that care is needed to obtain the best results.
When used outside, this timber will weather to a silver/grey colour, desired by many.

nice quality wood - very well planed Reviewed by Robertswann1990 on 27 Jun 2017
I was hoping that this wood might be suitable for musical instrument making but I'm afraid it's not quite up to scratch. Very very good quality wood, though. Very well planed but it seems only flatsawn wood is available.

Problem solved. Thanks Reviewed by Anonymous on 14 Oct 2016
Mine was a very small order to complete a project I was doing for my daughter. Due to the cut to size service she was able to complete the job after I was gone with a level of accuracy that neither of us could probably have achieved by hand. Also very good service when I needed to change the order by telephone after having started on line. Thanks

The quality of the Cedar was excellent and cut to the exact size required. This was my first order with WOODSHOPdirect but I would certainly recommend to my friends.
Weston Red Cedar Review Reviewed by Anonymous on 13 Apr 2016
I am a new customer of Woodshop Direct having been recommended by a work colleague. The quality of Weston red cedar supplied was first class, dimensionally accurate, straight, clean and fit for purpose. It is extremely useful to be able to purchase cut to size timber for even the smallest of projects. The service provided by Woodshop Direct was faultless, packaging and delivery was very good. For customers who do not have full wood machining capabilities it is really helpful to have timber supplied to customers own specific dimensions. Based on this, my first experience of using Woodshop Direct, I would certainly recommend them to friends and colleagues who need to source quality timber cut to order. The Weston red cedar is being used to make two RSPB nest boxes in my own workshop.
