Excellent service Reviewed by Anonymous on 14 Aug 2016
This was my first order with Woodshop direct, and I ordered 2 pieces of Meranti timber planed all round. It's a useful service for me, as I live in a flat and have minimal space to keep tools. The timber arrived reasonably quickly and the communication regarding the order and delivery was excellent. The timber was well prepared to the dimensions specified. There were a couple of minor dinks but nothing severe. It's difficult to know if these happened in transit or in the workshop, but I will say the timber was very well packaged. The Meranti was the cheapest hardwood and I would probably spend more in the future as it's very lightweight and not as dense as English hardwoods. Of course, that might be advantageous for some applications. All in all, a very good service from Woodshop direct and I would use them again in the future.

Good product, very pleased Reviewed by Anonymous on 15 Mar 2015
I ordered enough PAR meranti to build three medium sized sash windows. As I'd not used a dimensioning service before I emailed to find out what sort of tolerance I could expect on dimension and was helpfully told 2% with a realistic 0.5mm which is good compared to other quotes I had. When the wood arrived I was pleased to find that it was all within 0.5mm of the nominal (fairly consistently 0.5mm undersized). The length of timber supplied was for the most part quite generous which allowed me to work around any snipe easily. The surface finish on most boards was good but there are a couple that will need a sand as it looks like cutter knives probably had chips in them. The timber was almost all clear and straight grained - I found a couple of very small knots and one board had a shake which was easily cut out - certainly nothing to worry about. All the timber had a consistent and reasonable moisture content. A small amount of the timber was discoloured (grey/brown rather than pink/red) which I would guess was due to exposure to the elements. As I'm painting the finished project that's not a problem. There is, obviously, a cost to getting timber dimensioned and ready for use but considering the time and effort that it would take to dimension the amount of timber I bought I'm happy to pay someone else to do it. Delivery was about 7 working days after the order and came as six separate packages with the heaviest being about 30kg. There was a slight mix up at the couriers with one package getting loaded onto the wrong truck but it arrived later the same day.
